My favorite photos: Flowerpot Island

Flowerpot island

Flowerpot island

This is a photo from my favorite place in Ontario – Bruce Peninsula and the surrounding islands of Georgian Bay. This one in particular is at the Flowerpot island, famous for the curious rock formations. It was taken on a sunny day in May. Typical for a calm sunny day, the turquoise water looks very inviting (some people have compared it to the Caribbean!) However, even a short swim would be a very refreshing experience, with the water temperature in Georgian Bay rarely reaching 18 C (64 F).

  1. Lovely seascape picture.

  2. 64 degrees doesn’t sound so bad! Not that I’d actually like to dive in. I’m a terrible swimmer. But I would like to visit the island sometime. Very interesting! Thank you.

    • In May the temperatures are probably more along the lines of 10 C (50 F) :) My dad actually went for a swim, brrr!

  3. wow gorgeous colors indeed, would not have realized it u had not mentioned it was a lake :)

  4. It’s definitely an easy mistake to make. This lake (Lake Huron) is actually larger than some of the seas out there — no wonder it’s one of the “Great Lakes”!

  5. Beautiful picture! We have hiked the island a few times and plan on camping there next month.

The water is so deceiving there! Looks like it would be beautiful and warm but is VERY cold!

  6. The water looks so beautiful!

  7. Beautiful place, beautiful picture
